About the Green Office

What Is a Green Office?

Global warming and its effects touch the lives of everyone in society. We know that global warming is caused by greenhouse gases, and that these gases come from human activities and behavior — so simply being “brave enough to change”, even in small ways, can help the planet. The Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, the government agency that supports and promotes environmental care, recognizes the importance of good environmental management, especially in offices. The key principle of a Green Office is changing behavior in the office to reduce energy use and starting environmentally friendly activities, such as cutting waste through reducing, reusing and recycling, and reducing or eliminating hazardous chemicals.

Green Office Criteria Study and Development Project

The project develops, tests and evaluates criteria to certify environmentally friendly Green Offices. It strengthens the management of resources, energy and the environment in offices and supports green public procurement of goods and services, so that resources and energy are used economically and efficiently and the environment is well managed. It also raises office standards to become more environmentally friendly and extends the work to both the public and private sectors, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts and preparing for international environmental standards. The Green Office project encourages behavior change in offices to save energy and carry out environmentally friendly activities, such as cutting waste by reducing, reusing and recycling, reducing or eliminating hazardous chemicals, and buying environmentally friendly goods and services.
